With the arrival of a new year, I am always excited about the opportunities that lie before me. For 2020 I am asking God to bring renewal/revival to our churches here in Michigan. I think God has strategically placed us here “for such a time as this.” Our nation needs churches in revival, churches that are missional. Just the other day, I read an article from FactsandTrends.net regarding twenty things churches will be facing in 2020. One of the first trends facing churches is that America is no longer a majority church attending nation. Pew research found that only 45% of Americans attend church on a regular basis. Furthermore, the article stated that six in ten Protestant churches in America are plateaued or declining. One of the final trends the article revealed was that 32% of our teenagers say they have no religious affiliation. These trends indicate that the American church needs revival.

Let me encourage you to not be discouraged by these statistics. Rather, see them as opportunities for you and your church to share the faith and to make disciples. God has placed us here for this hour. Be a difference maker. Pastor Tommy Barnett once said, “Make a change in your world, and you will make a change in the world.” I encourage you to be both intentional and relational about evangelism. Chris Tiegreen in his Salt and Light devotional writes, “Help me remember that it is not my responsibility to convince hearts and minds of my views but to introduce them to my Savior.” Let us go into 2020 and reap the harvest. Jesus tells us that the “fields are white for harvest” (Jn 4:35). Let us win the lost and make disciples!
